After the five-mile test, the riders flew down a fast two-track for the next 10 miles to gas-stop number three. While the C riders called it a day, A and B riders topped off their fuel tanks and continued down a rocky sandwash to the third terrain test. The section led up a fast wash into the hills and down a rocky trail, and Smith .was again the man to beat with a time of 424 seconds. Eriksson and Eric Mashbir were next with 432 and 433 seconds, respectively, and Silves- tori and Douglas both posted 447 seconds for fourth-quickest. King and Lewis were battling for the 125cc class win, with Lewis losing 450 seconds to King's 449. With the final terrain test out of the way, the riders still had to negotiate a tight downhill sandwash that led back to the Carson Valley Inn for the final grass-track test. Two laps around a very tight and slippery track would determine the day's winner. Ericksson won his moto with the fastest time of 348 seconds. Neilson and Mashbir followed closely with times of 352 and 356 seconds. Smith, favoring a sore leg and wrist from a late crash, holeshot his moto only to fall in the third turn. Remounting in fifth place, Smith picked off riders one at a time until regaining the lead, but his score of 382 was well off the pace of the top riders. However, Smith had enough of a points lead to nab the overall win with a total score of 1814. Eriksson wound up second overall and first in the Open Four-Stroke class with 1828. Neilson's 1848 points secured third, with Mash- hbir in fourth place only two points back. While most competitors were cool ing off after the event, the top riders waged another battle in the Dash For. Cash, where they diced for eight laps around the grass track. Smith took home most of the money, as he held the lead from the start and never looked back. Mashbir tried in vain to catch Smith, but settled for second. cm Results O/A: !. Rodney Smith (Suz); 2.
