Bou Wins In Austria
R
epsol Honda's Toni Bou,
aboard the Montesa Cota
4RT, captured his fifth victory
in six events so far this season
in the FIM X-Trial World Cham-
pionship. Rival Jaime Busto of
the GasGas Factory Team was
second and Bou's teammate,
Gabriel Marcelli, was third at the
Arena Nova in Austria on March
14. It was also Bou's 90th victory
of his career in the X-Trial World
Championship.
Bou had a perfect first lap, ac
-
cruing zero penalty points after
completing the six sections.
This gave him a direct spot in
the final, alongside Marcelli and
Busto, and placed him at the top
of the standings, a position he
would not relinquish throughout
the day.
In the Sprint race, he drew on
his experience and was the fast
-
est rider and set off last in the
decisive round.
Bou faced a closely contested
final, where the points were very
close between the four par-
ticipants, which included Beta
factory rider Matteo Grattarola.
Ultimately, Bou claimed an-
other victory. However, Busto's
second-place finish meant Bou
could not yet mathematically
clinch the title, as his rival had
to finish third or lower for that
to happen. He will have another
opportunity to take the title next
week in Cahors, France.
"We knew it would be a tough
race, and that's exactly what it
turned out to be," Bou said. "We
started the final with a small
mistake, but then we recovered
very well. So I'm very happy with
how it went today. We did our
job very well, and it was very
important to get this win."
