year for Roczen, which was a
huge rebound after crashing out
of the race one week ago.
"I knew it was going to be a
battle all the way to the check
-
ered flag, and I just gave it
everything
I could," Roczen said.
"Sometimes it's better to be in
second in those situations. I
gave it everything I had, and I
didn't let anything confuse me or
trip me out. I just hung in there,
and it's a great rebound from
last weekend, even though we
only made up two points, which
is a bummer. This season is still
long, and as long as I'm still in it
and I'm battling and leaving it all
on the track giving my best, then
I'm fine with it."
Sexton put in one of his best
rides for third. The Red Bull KTM
rider held the red plate going
into Detroit but mistimed the
starting gate and found him
-
going, or you're going to run
out of
time.' I tried to play it the
best I could, and if you look at
lap times, we were within a few
tenths every single lap. It's fun
when you have races like that; it's
almost like a game of chess."
Roczen crossed the line
second after leading nearly the
entire race. The Suzuki rider
battled with Aaron Plessinger
in the opening two laps but
quickly established himself as
the leader. Once Webb dropped
into second, the race was on,
and Roczen looked comfort
-
able up front, even with Webb
nipping
close at his heels. The
tight layout looked to play in
Roczen's favor, but he ultimately
gave up the lead with just three
laps to go. Still, he stayed in it
and crossed the line less than
a second behind Webb. This
marks the fourth podium of the
RESTART RULING
The ruling of the red flag restart
came with widespread contro-
versy and opinions. However, the
AMA's restart procedure after a
red flag was updated prior to the
2024 season. The rule states that
if the leader has completed at least
three laps, and if there is any time
remaining on the race clock, the
riders line up in a staggered posi-
tion on the start straight. A green
flag restarts the race, and the
remaining race duration will be, at
minimum, three laps.
MORE INJURIES
The gates were further thinned out
this weekend with more injuries
plaguing the field. Eli Tomac did
not race due to breaking his fibula
during round five at Tampa. Hunter
Lawrence suffered a shoulder in-
jury that requires surgery. Monster
Energy Star Racing Yamaha's
Daxton Bennick was injured during
the week, suffering a concussion,
and did not race in Detroit.
DETROIT NOTES:
Austin Forkner had a tough day,
crashing hard enough in qualifying
that his new Alpinestars Tech-
Air MX chest protector deployed,
and he crashed in his heat race,
finishing one spot out of a trans-
fer. However, he won the 250SX
LCQ... Joey Savatgy had a hard
get-off in qualifying but came back
to finish 13th in the 450SX main...
Benny Bloss also fell hard in quali-
fying but still made it to the 450SX
main before pulling off on lap 13...
The Detroit Supercross was on an
early than normal schedule, with
the first heat race starting just past
3 p.m. local time.
Briefly...
Max Anstie (31) had
the 250SX East main
win in the bag until the
red flag came out with
three laps to go.
