Top Supercross Contenders Sidelined
S
everal of the top contenders
for the 2025 Monster Energy
AMA Supercross Championship
are now out of the running due
to injuries. It first started with
Honda's Jett Lawrence suffer
-
ing a knee injury at the Glendale
Supercross, and now Lawrence's
teammate Hunter and former
champ Eli Tomac are also out.
Following the February 8 Tam
-
pa Supercross, Honda revealed
that Hunter Lawrence suffered
a torn labrum in his right shoul
-
der, along with multiple cracks
in his humerus bone, when he
went down during a heat race in
Tampa. He underwent surgery
on February 13. Recovery time
is expected between eight to 10
weeks.
"I'm going to get this fixed and
come back 100 percent to go
and battle for the outdoor and
SMX title again," Hunter said.
Honda has not indicated wheth
-
er it will bring in any fill-in riders
while both Lawrences heal up.
Yamaha's Tomac was also
injured at the Tampa Supercross
during qualifying. He still man-
aged to compete in the main
event with what was thought at
the time to be an ankle sprain
and a bruised calf, only to learn
afterward that he had suffered a
broken fibula in his leg.
"Unfortunately, this was more
than an ankle sprain and a
bruised calf," Tomac said. "After
two days of pain not improving,
I got additional scans on my leg,
and I do have a broken fibula.
This is such a bummer, as I've
never felt better on the motor
-
cycle in Supercross and getting
a win at San Diego was great. I
don't have an exact timeframe of
recovery at this time but will be
working to come back as soon
as possible."
