and smart," Deegan said. "After those first two [races], I knew the red-plate holder [Beaumer] was at a deficit, so in that last one, I was like, 'I'm not going to do anything super unnecessary.' But all day, I struggled with how I felt, and that's going to happen at the professional level." Glendale was almost Cole Da - vies' night. Almost. The young rookie from New Zealand looked cool, calm and collected as he dominated both of the opening 250 races. Davies fended off attacks from Smith and Deegan and started the night with per - fect 1-1 scores. Disaster then struck as he landed on a tuff block at the start of race three and was dead last after lap one. He charged all the way back to eighth, salvaging third overall at the end of the night. "A rider landed on a tuff block, and it landed in front of me," Davies said. "There's not much I could have done other than get - ting a better start. But I fought back. I did the best I could, so I gained a lot of confidence going to Arlington." Points leader Julien Beaumer was fourth on the night. The Red Bull KTM rider suffered crashes in both of the first two races, which set him back in terms of his overall finish. He ended the night with his best result (sec - ond) but still lost valuable points to both Smith and Deegan. "I made too many mistakes at the start of the first two finals and found myself on the ground," said Beaumer. "I'm frus - trated, to say the least, but we salvaged a lot of points tonight, win on the night. Race three saw more mature riding from the number 38, as he took a smart fourth with less of the wild style from the previous two.
