The Sierra Motorcycle Club, not the Sierra Club that first comes to mind, hosted the 100-mile Sierra Enduro in Coalinga, California, and we told you all about it 50 years ago... We race-tested the Montesa 250 Enduro in a two-day ISDT qualifier. "Masochists will hate it," we said... We interviewed 23-year-old Kenny Roberts... We pictured a couple of Maicos on the cover. YEARS AGO FEBRUARY , P114 LOOKING BACK I We ripped into the Suzuki RG500 Gamma road racer's engine to see how things ticked 40 years ago... San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium hosted the opening round of the AMA Supercross Series, which featured a new two-main, 10-lap motos format. Broc Glover and Rick Johnson won the motos. Johnny O'Mara, however, took the overall win with a 2-2... Dan Ashcraft had a four-minute lead when he crossed the finish line at the Desert M.C. 80-mile hare and hound in Lucerne Valley; Eric Hallgath won the 250cc class. YEARS AGO FEBRUARY , Kevin Schwantz gets some seat time before the big 2005 Superstars of Superkarts race to be held in conjunction with the upcoming USGP. Supercross instituted a two- moto format, which made its debut at the San Diego opener in 1985. Rick Johnson (5), among many others racers, was not a fan.
