P98 RIDE REVIEW I 2025 TRIUMPH SPEED TWIN 900 breathe, it's nice to discover Triumph has man- aged to inject some bark into the new exhaust, which adds a smile to the ride, too. As a short rider, I didn't find the older Speed Twin 900 uncomfortable or small, but Triumph has opted to open up the riding position to bet - ter accommodate taller folk—and it certainly seems more spacious. Our ride may have been relatively short at just 96 miles, but that equated to over three hours of riding time, and none of my body parts registered a complaint. Triumph quotes an average fuel consump - tion of 59 mpg, whereas I managed 45.8 mpg to 50 mpg. I think you'd have to be gentle with the throttle to achieve Triumph's claimed figure, but over 50 mpg should be achievable, which equates to over 150 miles between fill- ups from the 3.17-gallon tank. Fit the optional soft luggage and you could easily take on some light touring. The Verdict Triumph appears to have listened to custom- er feedback. According to Triumph, Speed Twin 900 owners loved the engine (so leave that alone, please) but wanted a sportier edge with improved rider aids and a cooler new, but still retro, image. And that is what has been delivered. The handling isn't vastly different, but there is a fresh edge to the way the 2025 machine turns and stops. The digital dash may be con - troversial in some quarters, but new lean-sen- sitive rider aids tick the tech box and make the 900 even more accommodating for new riders. In terms of styling, detailing and quality of fin- ish, the new bike is hard to fault and punches well above its just-under $10,000 price point. The true test will be when it comes up against the competition, particularly the pricier and more powerful Ducati Scrambler and Moto Guzzi V7, which gets an upgrade for 2025. But as first im - pressions go, the new Speed Twin 900 certainly hits the mark and is more desirable than ever. It looks like the Triumph's most popular modern classic will continue to shine.
