Despite the close call late
in the race and the consistent
pressure from Lawrence, Tomac
never cracked. The veteran main-
tained control of the lead and
held
the top spot through to the
checkered flag, marking his first
main-event win in nearly a year
and the 53rd of his career. With
the win he also takes over the
points lead. He's one point clear
of A1 winner Chase Sexton.
"This was a huge deal for
me," Tomac said. "Just coming
back and actually proving that
I'm in a better position and in
better shape…I think the days of
getting a huge lead and coast

ing it in are hard to come by.
We're
not going to get many of
those races with the gate that

Ryder DiFrancesco nearly grabbed
a podium, but a handful of mistakes
put him fifth. "The main was going
to plan until halfway when I made a
huge mistake and got bumped back
to fourth, then got passed on the last
lap and finished fifth. My goal was
to be in the fight all year and that's
where we are, so it was a good day
all in all."

After a podium at Anaheim 1, Jason
Anderson finished outside the top 10
in San Diego. "I finished third in my
heat race, which was better than I ex-
pected since I am under the weather.
I did not have a great start and then
had some other issues in the main
event. I've been sick this week, and it
got to me by the end of the night. My
energy was fading, and it showed the
last couple laps of the main."
