KITCHEN SWITCHIN' News broke early in the day that title contender Levi Kitchen had come down with a "debilitating illness." The Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki rider rode free practice but chose not to run either qualifying session. Since he never rode in either timed session, he'll now switch to the 250SX East Championship. "I'm on my way to get blood work done now, but this was a collective decision between the team and me," Kitchen said. "At the end of the day, I need to do what's best for my future." ROOKIE DEBUTS Some fresh faces made their professional Supercross debuts in the 250SX class. New Zealand native Cole Davies led the charge with an eighth-place finish. Other notables include Avery Long 12th, Parker Ross 17th, Noah Viney 18th and Gavin Towers 19th. ANAHEIM 1 NOTES: Evan Ferry, who was making his debut on the Phoenix Racing Honda and competing in just his second Supercross race, cased a jump while running fourth in his heat race and suffered an Achil- les injury and now faces a lengthy recovery... Triumph's Jalek Swoll also suffered an Achilles injury before A1, forcing the team to reshuffle its 250cc riders. Stilez Robertson is now replacing Swoll in the West series, while Austin Forker will switch to the East. The team is expected to announce a fill-in for Swoll... Defending 250SX West Champion RJ Hampshire did not start A1 due to an ongoing wrist injury; he is now expected to ride the 250SX East series... Briefly... Eli Tomac crashed on lap one but came through the pack for fifth.
