In his second year—
which, of course,
provided hugely different
conditions than last year
in Argentina's desert—
Grant Davis showed
flashes of brilliance,
though they were offset
by occasional frustrating
mistakes. Still, he led
the U.S. JWT team to
third and was third in the
E1 class as well as the
second-fastest American
rider at 11th overall
individual.
Rachel Gutish noticed her bike not
running quite right the first two days
so as a precaution, she replaced the
clutch, voltage regulator and fuel
pump after the third day, surrounded
by a number of technical advisors.
As the rider, of course, she had to
perform all the physical tasks.
