Ryde Wins BSB Thriller at Brands Hatch

yle Ryde (OMG Grilla Ya-
maha Racing) clinched the
2024 Bennetts British Superbike
Championship in a thrilling battle
against defending champion
Tommy Bridewell (Honda Rac
-
ing UK) at Brands Hatch at the
weekend. Ryde secured the title
by a single point in a dramatic
finale that was decided in the
final corner of the last lap.
After Danny Kent (McCams
Yamaha) took a career-first BSB
race win on Saturday, Ryde start
-
ed the final day on Sunday with a
narrow one-point lead, but Bride-
well claimed victory in the first of
the day's two races, setting up a
"winner takes all" showdown in
the final race. Bridewell led early,
but Ryde fought back, overtaking
both Bridewell and Glenn Irwin
(Hager PBM Ducati) to take the
lead by the race's midpoint.
As Bridewell broke the lap
record, he regained the lead on lap
12, sparking the intense back-and-
forth battle. Bridewell and Ryde ex
-
changed positions several times,
with Bridewell repeatedly passing
Ryde at Stirlings corner, only for
Ryde to respond at Hawthorn.
On the final lap of the season,
Ryde made the pass at Haw
-
thorn and defended his position
through the last few corners.
Bridewell attempted a final
pass at the final Clark Curve but
couldn't make it stick after the
Fireblade snapped sideways,
allowing Ryde to cross the finish
line first by 0.296 of a second to
secure his first BSB title.
Ryde's BSB title now goes with
his British GP2, Junior Super
-
stock and British 125cc Champi-
onship titles.
Bridewell ended up second by
a single point, with his archrival
Glenn Irwin third, 104 points
behind.
