In Moto3, a new star was born, as Colombian-born David Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar Team) won the race and the 2024 championship, topping Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing Honda). MotoGP Sprint Race It was all looking so rosy for Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3). The Spaniard took a first premier-class pole after Marc Marquez's record-breaking lap was scrubbed off for ex - ceeding track limits. Bagnaia made a scrappy start but regained control, nab- bing the holeshot from Acosta. Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) briefly overtook Acosta, but the rookie fought back to settle into second. After the initial shuffle, Bagnaia, Acosta, Bastianini and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) led, with Martin and Marquez chasing. The action heated up on lap two when Marquez passed Mar - tin at turn 10. Acosta then made a late dive at turn five, taking the lead from Bagnaia. Bastianini stayed close, while Binder re- tired with a technical issue. Acosta was charging and was beginning to break the World Champion, but with a bit too much speed, a bit too much lean angle, his front tire cried enough and Acosta, his head in his hands slid into the gravel trap and out of the race at turn seven on lap eight, allowing Bagnaia to retake the lead, with Bastianini and Marquez chasing. VOLUME ISSUE OCTOBER , P85 89 JORGE MARTIN 4TH/2ND MOTOGP "I'm pleased with this result; it wasn't easy to get on the podium starting from the fourth row," Jorge Martin said. "I made a good start, and from the beginning, I gave my maximum to reach the podium. Pecco was very fast today, and I took a few risks to catch him, but I preferred to stay in a safe zone and secure this important second place. Now we have a week's break, and the next race will be in Australia, a track that I love." 36 JOAN MIR DNF/DNF "At turn 11, I overtook Alex Marquez after he went wide, then in turn 12 he made contact with the rear of my bike, his bike became stuck between my seat and the wheel, so I had to run on and crashed," Mir said. "It's a shame, because I was going well in that first lap of the race, and the pace we showed yesterday in the Sprint, something good was possible." MYOWNRACE (Above) Pedro Acosta (31) was looking odds-on for a first Sprint race win and possibly even the Sunday GP until he bit the dust on both occasions. (Left) Jack Miller heads Aleix Espargaro. The Australian was unable to reproduce the form that took him to the 2021 race win with a 10th on Sunday. Espargaro pipped him for ninth. pacted my performance in the second half of the race. I tried to bridge the gap to Marc, and I got close to him, but not close enough to give it a try."
