YEARS AGO OCTOBER , We reviewed the year in AMA motocross 40 years ago... Scott Parker stretched his championship lead to five over Chris Carr after winning the Sacramento Mile. Only two rounds remained... Mick Doohan won the Argentine Grand Prix, with two Cagiva- mounted riders, Doug Chandler and John Kocinski, finishing right behind him... Scott Russell and Carl Fogarty traded race wins at the Mugello round of the World Superbike Championship... We reported that Colin Edwards would compete in the 1995 World Superbike Series on a Yamaha. Suzuki-mounted Ricky Carmichael was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 20 years ago. We interviewed the champ after his team change from Honda (after his perfect season) to Makita Suzuki... We reported that three-time Dakar winner and French star Richard Sainct had perished following a crash during the Pharaohs Rally in Egypt... Doug Henry won the AMA Supermoto round held in downtown Reno... Stefan Everts, Kevin Strijbos and Steve Ramon won the Chamberlain Trophy for Belgium at the Motocross of Nations. The U.S. did not send a team that year.
