by taking the win in the $5000 three-lap Challenge race over Herfoss and teammate Rocco Landers. With no points awarded in the Challenge race, it was still all to play for, and it would be Land- ers who notched his second win of the season, besting Herfoss by 0.182 of a second, with Wyman 2.99 seconds back in third, meaning the top point gap remained but with Herfoss now leading Wyman. Fourth went to Herfoss' teammate Tyler O'Hara and fifth to Wyman's teammate James Rispoli. The year's final race was a winner-take-all, and the three- time Australian Superbike Champion Herfoss put on a masterclass, pulling away with ease over the nine laps. He had such a gap on second-placed Landers, he laid down a lap four seconds slower than his best on the final circuit and still finished 1.7 seconds up on Landers to take the win and the title, his first AMA road racing champion- ship to go with his 2008 AMA Supermoto Championship win. "It's been an incredible jour- ney," Herfoss said. "Seriously, 12 months ago I was in this position in Australia and on top of the world, but didn't know ex- actly what I wanted from racing moving forward. This incredible opportunity to come and race for a new motorcycle [brand] in King Of The Baggers came up. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone, and that's exactly what it was. I was extremely uncomfortable from the banks of Daytona through the world championship crowds at COTA to the gravel trap at Brainerd, and to here, this moment winning a championship. It's been a wild ride and an incredible journey." Wyman was hampered by a Harley-Davidson that refused to pick up drive when he asked for it, holding on to third place and tak- ing a disconsolate second in the championship. O'Hara again took fourth with Gillim taking fifth. The points have Herfoss crowned the new King Of The Baggers on 358 from Wyman's 347 and Gillim's 224. ROUND 9 / SEPTEMBER 27-29, 2024 NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK / MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY ROAD RACE I MOTOAMERICA AMA/FIM NORTH AMERICAN ROAD RACING CHAMPIONSHIP P80 Hayden Gillim shows some proper body English as he wrestles the number-one Honda to the double Stock 1000 win.
