J
osh Herrin wrote his own
piece of history at New
Jersey Motorsports Park
by taking Ducati's first AMA
Superbike Championship in
30 years, winning race one to
put an exclamation point on a
coming-of-age season.
Herrin and the Warhorse
HSBK Racing Ducati Panigale
V4 R qualified fourth in a rain-
interrupted qualifying session
behind teammate Loris Baz
after the Frenchman took his
first pole of the year.
Warm weather greeted the
field for the start of race one,
with Xavi Fores (Attack Per
-
formance Yamaha) taking the
holeshot from teammate Cam-
eron Petersen. Herrin was mired
down in sixth for the opening
few laps as Baz took the lead
from Wrench Motorcycles' Bob-
by Fong. Herrin would eventually
force the issue, taking the lead
on lap 11, but with Fong refus
-
ing to let the number two get
away, he still had to work for it.
