Cycle News tested the Can-Am 250 MX-1 that was pictured on the cover 50 years ago. The MX-1 was making waves at the time with success in the hands of Can-Am factory riders Gary Jones, Marty Tripes and Jimmy Ellis... We had coverage of the Motocross des Nations from Huskvarna, Sweden, where the home team took the win. Team USA placed second with Brad Lackey, Tony DiStefano, Jimmy Weinert and Jim Pomeroy... Rick Hocking defeated a star-studded field, which included Rex Beauchamp and Kenny Roberts, at the Golden Gate Mile. YEARS AGO OCTOBER , P134 LOOKING BACK I Honda and Yamaha revealed their 1985 models, and we pictured the all-new Yamaha YZ250 motocrosser and the Honda VF1000R on the cover... The Insport/Wrangler Supercross Series visited the Cal- Expo Fairgrounds in Sacramento, where Honda swept the podium with winner David Bailey, Johnny O'Mara and Bob Hannah... GNC road racing took place at Mid-Ohio, where Honda's Bubba Shobert took the win... We had coverage of the CMC Trans-Cal MX Series from Sunrise Cycle Park, where Honda riders again won everything, with Johnny O'Mara winning the 125 and 250cc classes and Danny Chandler the 500cc class. YEARS AGO OCTOBER , (Above) KTM hosted the USA Dakar Rider Search from Dumont Dunes 20 years ago. (Right) Winner Bubba Shobert (77) leads the way at Mid-Ohio in 1984.
