We covered the 49th ISDT, which was held in Camerino, Italy. The dominant Czech Team won, while Team USA finished a very respectable fourth in both the Trophy and Vase classes... We printed a collection of photos from the Evel Knievel motocross held near the rim of the Snake River... We tested the Yamaha RD 200 B, which we called a low- budget racer. It weighed 256 pounds and sold for $995... We featured a story on Czech motocrosser Jaroslav Falta, who was robbed of the 250cc MX World Championship, which ended up going to Russian Gennady Moiseev. We titled the story "Falta Sure Was Screwed." YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER , P140 LOOKING BACK I We spun a few laps on a modified Moto Martin six-cylinder CBX Honda at Willow Spring that was pictured on the cover 40 years ago... Team USA‹Je‚ Ward, Johnny O'Mara, David Bailey, and Rick Johnson—won the Motocross des Nations in Finland. Saddleback MX Park: 1968-1984. The well-known motorcycle park, aka the "heart of motocross," in Orange, California, had just closed its doors, and we wrote an In Memoriam in the track's honor. The Park's landlord, Irvine Company, cited high liability insurance as the main reason for its closure. YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER , (Left) Chris Carr was his fifth Castle Rock TT 30 years ago. (Right) Marty Tripes was one of the big-money winners at the Evel Knievel Snake River Motocross 50 years ago.
