King of The Baggers, with Kyle
Wyman (Harley-Davidson Fac-
tory Racing) and Troy Herfoss
(S&S/Indian
Motorcycle) sepa-
rated by just two points heading
into
the New Jersey round at
the end of the month, courtesy
of Herfoss having a weekend to
remember in Texas.
The Australian came up
trumps in the two-lap Challenge
race over Hayden Gillim (RevZil
-
la/Motul/Vance & Hines Harley-
Davidson)
and teammate, Tyler
O'Hara, netting $5000 in the
process.
beating Lewis and West with
McWilliam's fourth.
In race two, O'Hara could do
nothing but go out and win and
hope for the best. He did just
that, but West did what he had
to do, taking second ahead of
McWilliams for a first national
title in a career that spans 20
years at the top level.
"It was a really stressful race,"
West said. "I had to finish third.
I knew what T.O. [Tyler O'Hara]
was going to do. He was going
to go out and try to win it. I just
kept my head down and did
what I could. This is a dream
come true. It's something that
you've always wanted when you
were a kid, when you start rac

ing, to be a champion."
West

Super Hooligan National Cham

Essentially, it was winner take
all,
with four points separating
the two coming into COTA, and
West drew first blood by taking
pole, a scant 0.067 of a second
up on O'Hara.
The factory Indian Motorcycle
team even drafted in former
rider Jeremy McWilliams to
work with Troy Herfoss and help
aid O'Hara's title bid, making it
a three-rider team to match the
three Saddlemen/Harley-David
-
son riders of West, Jake Lewis
and
Travis Wyman.
But it didn't do O'Hara much
good in race one, as the number
one dropped the bike at turn
one on lap two while leading. He
remounted way down in the field
but charged back up to finish
an incredible fifth, with Herfoss
helping his teammate out by
