The only challenger to Di Ma- rio's possible title was Landers, but his challenge was extin- guished early in race two when his machine expired. Scholtz gradually pulled clear but Jacobsen effectively handed his rival the title by crashing out at the penultimate corner. The meant Jacobsen, who went into the race 14 points behind Scholtz, would leave Texas 39 points behind. Scholtz took the win, 2.2 sec - onds up on Scott, with Davis third.
