and made his way to the lead before executing several sprint laps, which saw him open up a double-digit gap back to second place. He rode away uncontest - ed and proved to be a challenger for the SMX crown. While losing the points lead, he's still just one point back in second place. "I just needed to get off the start, that was the biggest thing," Sexton said. "I don't know if I've been on a start that short, so the jump really mattered. I didn't come into the first turn super great, but I was able to come around fourth. The first moto, I feel like I rode decent, but I was too far back, and by the time I got into fourth, those guys were already well ahead of me. I knew last weekend wasn't Chase Sexton came away second on the day but highlight - ed his trip to Texas with a domi- nant win in moto two. The KTM rider entered the arena with the red plate but has been open about fighting his bike setup on the hybrid-style SMX tracks. He lost the tow to the top three during moto one but bounced back with a statement ride in race two. Sexton pounced early the series finale. "I wasn't 100 percent sure of the point system because it's Olympic scoring, so I just didn't want to do a big song and dance and find out I didn't win," Lawrence said. "It's cool to race Tomac; I watched him from Australia racing with Stewart, Villopoto, Dungey, all those guys. So, yeah, it's cool, probably a bucket list thing." I qualified sixth, which was great. In the first moto, I got an awesome start, ran up front, and ended up fifth. Then in that last moto, I got a great start again and made some early passes to second. I ended up fourth and was solid, right behind Hunter.
