ROUND 1 / SEPTEMBER 7, 2024
ZMAX DRAGWAY / CONCORD, NORTH CAROLINA
SUPERMOTOCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERMOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
P86
"The practice laps for me
were pretty easy, like the one
sprint lap, so I knew it would
be good for the motos," said
Tomac. "My mindset was, 'You
have to get the start.' I knew if I
could get myself in the position
off the start, then I would feel
like I could be in the mix today."
Chase Sexton landed on the
box with third overall. The newly
crowned 450 Pro Motocross
Champion went through his
of his penultimate profes
-
sional season. The Monster
Energy
Star Racing Yamaha
rider opened the day's 450SMX
racing with a dominant win in
the first moto. His wire-to-wire
victory left no doubt that the
number-three still has what it
takes to be a top dog against
a field of capable past champi
-
ons. Again, in race two, he used
the Dunlop scoop
tire to start
up front and led Jett for all but
the final three laps. He looked
like the Tomac of old, and 2-1
finishes netted him second on
the day, showing he'll be a threat
on these hybrid-style racetracks
for the coming weeks.
(Below) Chase Sexton struggled
with bike setup and finished a
quiet third overall in 450SMX.
(Right) Haiden Deegan picked up
where he left off and swept the
250SMX class.
