finally Bautista, the complexion of the championship fight changed significantly, even if Bulega had not scored in race one. Razgatlioglu has an un- changed 365 points, Bulega has 310, Bautista 243 and Lowes 235. Nothing is assured yet, despite Toprak's recent record- breaking domination. The next round occurs at Cre - mona, a new Italian WorldSBK venue, September 20-22. WorldSSP The WorldSSP grid formed up after the end of the first Super- bike race at Magny-Cours, but they never got to race on Sat- urday. Pooling water and local flooding, not helped by ridges and smooth spots left on the track by the many four-wheeled vehicles that use the track, were the main concern. The 12-lap postponed open- ing race on Sunday morning—at 09:45, no less—saw a damp track welcome the riders. Those with wets, like long-time leader Valentin Debise, were on wets. Aussie rider Luke Power was second at one point but fell from a top-four place as the track conditions changed. Niki Tuuli eventually won the race, by three seconds from Federico Caricasulo and Glenn van Strallen. Adrian Huertas was fourth and Yari Montella sixth. Race two saw Can Oncu lead from pole (having set the fast - est lap of race one), but he was soon passed on the straight by Montella. Huertas tried to get past his rivals as directly as possible and finished second, but some 2.2 seconds adrift of Montella. Manzi secured a new lap re- cord on lap five, with a 1'40.339, which he reduced to a 1'40.027 on lap seven, chasing Huertas. Tom Booth-Amos was on a true charge as he moved up to fourth just before halfway. Huertas made an error in the hairpin to allow Manzi into sec - ond place. A French Civil War battle between Debise and Mahias saw both crash at the final right- hander before the chicane on lap 13. Mahias suffered a displaced right collarbone fracture and an A/C joint separation. Manzi took the lead into T5 on lap 15 but he was re-passed by Montella and he would hold the advantage to take the win. Manzi was just 0.171 of a second behind, but a last-lap overcook of his brakes into the hairpin from Huer - tas ensured he would finish third. Booth-Amos was a tremen- dous career-best fourth and Navarro fifth. In the championship points, Huertas now only has a 14-point advantage over Montella, 289 to 275. Manzi is third, with 239 points—two whole-race wins behind Huertas with four rounds and eight races to go. Gordon Ritchie SUPERBIKE RACE 1 1. Michael Van Der Mark (BMW) 2. Alvaro Bautista (Duc) 3.
