ROUND 12 / AUGUST 30-SEPTEMBER 1, 2024 ARAGON / ALCANIZ, SPAIN ROAD RACE I FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP P88 easy to send a message to Loris [Capirossi, the Safety Advisor to Dorna Sports]. They say that they were going to clean, but I don't know if this morning they had enough time to do." CHANTRA TO MOTOGP Somkiat Chantra's promotion to MotoGP was confirmed on Thursday, as the 25-year-old will become the first premier class rider in history from Thailand. "I was crying when I was calling my mom because I was so happy," said the future LCR Honda rider of the news. Chantra will replace Takaaki Nakagami, a member of the LCR squad since 2018. The Japanese rider has accepted a new role. "I will be involved in the development of HRC machines. It is gratifying Briefly... the end of lap 11, with his sights set on Alex Marquez next. By lap 19, Bagnaia was right on Alex Marquez's tail, and when Alex ran wide entering turn 12, Bagnaia seized the opportu - nity. Then all hell broke loose. Bagnaia swept across the bow of Marquez, who collected the right rear of the World Cham - pion. Marquez's Ducati was then forced upright and pushed on Bagnaia, who struggled to hold the number-one Ducati up. Finally, Bagnaia could do no more and fell under Marquez's machine in a horrible crash; both riders were lucky (espe - cially Bagnaia) to escape injury, and both riders blamed each other for the crash. Race control later intervened and dubbed it a "racing incident." Martin attempted a pass on Acosta at turn eight on lap two but ran wide, allowing Acosta to reclaim the position before Mar - tin successfully overtook him at turn 13. Acosta then began to fall back, with Alex Marquez moving into the top three. Bagnaia started to recover, overtaking Binder for sixth. The Italian then targeted Morbidelli to break into the top five. Mor - bidelli ran wide not long after, dropping to eighth and letting Bagnaia through. Oliveira crashed out early, fol - lowed by Quartararo at turn five. Further down the order, Bas- tianini was battling for a top 10 position against Di Giannantonio and Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing). At the front, Marquez extended his lead to over three seconds, with Martin holding on as his closest rival. Martin maintained a crucial advantage over Bagnaia, who had climbed to fourth after a spectacular pass on Acosta at Marc Marquez will have this shot blown up on his wall, no doubt.
