The result, of course, in-
creased Daniels' podium streak

12. But as impressive as his
statistical accomplishment was,
bragging rights in the numbers
game clearly went to Mees.
His Sunday ended with a
ninth- and 10th-career victory at
the Springfield Mile, a 29th- and
30th-career Mile win, tying and
then surpassing Chris Carr for
second all-time in the discipline,
and just three points away from
surpassing Scott Parker in
securing an unprecedented 10th
Grand National Championship.
Mees said, "Coming into here,
I knew I needed to win both of
these things to have a decent
Fisher faded from the chase.
A short while later, Bauman's

to show signs of increasing dis

it wise to
pull out of the race for
the second time on Sunday.
Mees eked out just enough of
a gap that the winded Daniels

last-gasp push for the win that
was almost certainly destined to
come up short.
The champ took the check

ered flag by 1.396 seconds this

around. Behind, Daniels did
just enough to hold onto second

Racing's Davis Fisher back up
through the field, the two finish

ing 2-3, with the Yamaha runner
picking up where
he left off
pre-injury to resume his podium
streak at 11. Robinson lost pre-
cious points in the process but
managed to
sneak back around
Price on the last lap for fourth.
Main event two was a similar
affair, only rather than any single
defining moment, Mees' second
victory came via the slow, sys

temic application of inevitability.
Daniels took
the lead from
Mees at one point as a five-rider
pack, including Bauman, Rob

inson, and Fisher, shook free at
the front.
