A young model was pictured atop our 1975 Puch 125cc motocrosser on
the cover of Cycle News 50 years ago... We had coverage of the final
round of the AMA National Motocross Championship in Louisiana on
the banks of the Mississippi River. Can-Am riders Gary Jones, Marty
Tripes and Jimmy Ellis went 1-2-3 in the 250cc Championship. It was
a good year for Can-Am... Kenny Roberts dominated the Talladega
AMA National Road Race. We said Roberts "is developing into one of
America's all-time great road racers."

LOOKING BACK I
Cycle News got to ride Rick Johnson's production-based factory
YZ250 race bike at DeAnza Cycle Park in Southern California. It was
the first year of the "production rule," and Johnson won the '84
Championship. We thought the bike was easy to ride but complained
about the ultra-sti" forks... Mike Baldwin clinched the AMA GNC/
Camel Pro Series Formula 1 Road Race title at Brainerd... Eddie
Warren was the big winner at the third running of the AMA Amateur/
Youth MX Nationals at Loretta Lynn's.
