Racing got a little close between Jimmy Weinert (7) and Tony DiStefano 50 years ago. The two were pictured on the cover locking handlebars in Ohio. Weinert went down but went on to win... Gene Romero edged out Doug Sehl to win the Indy Mile... We covered the OMRRA $1000 Road Race from Portland, where Quentin Hogan pocketed the cash... Heikki Mikkola clinched the 500cc World Motocross Championship in Luxembourg after winning the first moto at the final round. Brad Lackey finished out the championship in the top 10. YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER , P128 LOOKING BACK I We interviewed the new 500cc Road Race World Champion. Eddie Lawson, who was pictured on the cover 40 years ago... Hank Scott and Ricky Graham won the Indy Mile doubleheader... Broc Glover won the 125cc and 250cc classes at the Insport Arenacross held in the San Diego Sports Arena. Glover out-dueled Mark Barnett in both classes... Mike Baldwin and Honda teammate Fred Merkel won the Suzuka 8 Hours... Mike Melton won the Jack Pine National Enduro in Michigan. YEARS AGO SEPTEMBER Pro-Motion Motorsports announced a new form of motorcycle racing in America called EnduroCross. The first race, in Las Vegas, would be held later in the year in November 2004. It was the Broc Glover (left) and Mark Barnett show at the Insport Arenacross in San Diego 40 years ago. The home hero, Glover, won the 125cc and 250cc classes.
