young bucks in the 250MX divi-
sion "just for the fun of it" on a
Suzuki RM-Z250. The veteran
went 9-12 for ninth overall. He'll
jump back on to a 450 for the
SMX playoffs.
KTM ON TOP
Not only did KTM win the 450MX
crown with Chase Sexton, but it
also took the combined (450MX
and 250MX) Manufacturer's
crown. The Austrian manufac-
turer finished the outdoors with
944 points. Yamaha edged out
Honda by one point, 887-886, for
runner-up honors. Kawasaki was
fourth, followed by Husqvarna,
GasGas, Triumph and Suzuki.
TOP 10 NOTABLES
Freddie Noren cracked the
championship top 10 as the top-
finishing non-factory-backed rider
in the 450MX class. Noren rode
a Maddparts.com/MX4Christ
Kawasaki KX450SR to 10th
overall, just 11 points ahead of
Phil Nicoletti, who finished out
his professional racing career at
the Ironman National. Defending
champ Jett Lawrence officially
ended up ninth in the champion-
ship despite sitting out the last
six rounds with an injury. (He is,
however, expected to compete in
the AMA SuperMotocross World
Championship playoffs.) Jalek
Swoll put Triumph in the top 10
of the 250MX in the manufactur-
er's maiden AMA outdoor cham-
pionship. Swoll placed seventh,
12 points behind Jo Shimoda.
Swoll's teammate Joey Savatgy
finished 12th with a couple of
DNFs.
