Forty years ago, David Bailey was
leading the first moto of the 500cc U.S.
GP at Carlsbad and heading to a sure win
when the rear wheel of his works Honda
started to fail. "I thought I had a flat but
heard noises and then knew the wheel
was falling apart," Bailey said. Honda
