After clinching the three-lap $5000 Challenge race ahead of archrival Kyle Wyman (Harley- Davidson Factory Racing) and his teammate James Rispoli, Herfoss, desperate to claw back some ground in the championship, start- ed out in perfect fashion by taking the first-race win, one second up on Wyman and Rocco Landers getting onto the box in third on the RevZilla/ Motul/ Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson. Herfoss needed the win in race two to make it easier in the title race heading to COTA, both he and Wyman hitting the front and running away with it until charge back to the front, closing down a two-second gap to slice past Scott and Jacobsen as the latter began to fall back with a disintegrating front tire. Scholtz eventually crossed the line one-tenth of a second ahead of Scott, with Lewis also getting by Jacobsen in a body blow for the New Yorker's title aspirations. The series now has Scholtz 25 points up on Jacobsen with four races and 100 points to play for, 304 to 279. Lewis is third on 152.
