Sexton could easily sit back and
play the long game, cruise the
rest of the season in second
place and likely clinch the title.
Instead, he fought his former
teammate, Hunter Lawrence,
tooth and nail during moto one
despite entering the day with a
28-point lead, more than a full-
race win. The title favorites were
never more than three seconds
apart during the race, finishing
just a few clicks apart, with Sex

ton ultimately crossing second.
Sexton then fired back in moto
two with a holeshot, his first of
the year, and a hot lap, which
saw him open up a six-and-a-half
second lead at the green flag.
The KTM rider simply decimated
the field in the second moto and
cruised it in for an easy win, earn

ing the overall in the process.
After trading moto wins with
Lawrence, he remains 28 points
up in the title fight.
"To be honest, I was just really
excited to get a holeshot," Sexton
said. "I haven't pulled a holeshot
all summer. Today, we made
some adjustments to the bike
for the start, and it really paid off.
My first moto was good, and the
second moto was even better. I
just wanted to sprint when the
track was good and just capital

and had to work my way up from
midpack, but managed to get back up
to fifth. I tried to get into fourth after
battling with Jalek [Swoll], but I didn't
end up having enough time. Overall,
I am pumped on the whole team and
everything they have done so far."

Ken Roczen returned to action since
injuring his knee at the Nashville
Supercross. "Nothing like your first
National back," he said. "Overall, a
pretty solid weekend. I struggled with
my setup in the first moto and got
seventh. We made a change for the
second one and it was feeling better.
After the start, I worked my way up to
second until about half way. I ended
up sixth in the second moto but at
least we improved and was closer
to the front. Ultimately, I would like
to get my bike a bit better still, and
of course myself, too. The track was
brutal and super hard-packed. I'm
sore! Three months off the bike defi-
nitely takes a toll, but you got to start
somewhere."
MYOWNRACE
Chase Sexton saw his
seven-moto win streak
come to an end in moto one,
but he rode all alone at the
front in moto two.
A pair of holeshots
netted Plessinger
another spot on
the podium.
