Pettis, Benoit Clinch Canadian MX Crowns T he final round of the Canadi- an Triple Crown Series came to a head at Walton Raceway in Ontario on August 11. Both titles were decided in nail-biting fin - ishes during the final gate drops of the season. At the checkers, Dylan Wright and Drew Adams won the battle for the day's over - all wins, but both KTMs of Jess Pettis and Kaven Benoit won the war with the 450 and 250 titles, respectively. Pettis came into the final round leading the points se - ries by 10 over KTM teammate Joziah Natzke. Natzke grabbed the upper hand early in moto one and put former champ Wright between himself and Pettis at the finish. Pettis fired back in moto two and led most of the race before Wright overtook the top spot with just three laps re - maining. With the championship in sight and Natzke buried back in fifth, Pettis backed it down and took second. Wright claimed the overall win with 2-1 finishes, flip-flopping Pettis in second, with Natzke third. Pettis earned the title by a mere 11 points. The 250 division saw more closing racing as the champion - ship was still yet to be decided between KTM's Kaven Benoit and Kawasaki's Drew Adams, as just eight points separated the two. Adams put on an absolute clinic in race one and ran away with a 20-plus second lead over Benoit. Race two, however, saw Adams start from outside the top five while Benoit took off with the early lead. With just two to go, Adams found himself hot on Ben - oit's heels, making the pass in the final stages of the race. Adams managed to take the 1-1 sweep but still came up just two points short of the title. Benoit's consis- tency paid off in the long run, as he earned another back-to-back 250 Championship. Marvin Musquin also made headlines as the French rider headed north to race a KTM 150SX in the FXR Premix Shoot - out. The former Factory KTM rider earned the win with 1-1 finishes over Sam Gaynor and Tyler Kirby. CN 450 Pro (Top 5) 1. Dylan Wright (Hon) 2-1 2. Jess Pettis (KTM) 3-2 3. Joziah Natzke (Yam) 1-5 4.
