Jake Dixon (CFMoto Inde
Aspar Team) became just the
fourth British rider since 1977
to win a GP on home soil when
he pulled an audacious last-lap
pass on long-time leader Aron
Canet (Fantic Racing) to take an
emotional win in Moto2.
In Moto3, birthday boy Ivan
Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI) con
-
verted pole position to victory
as he held off the usual 250cc
freight train, the top seven
covered by seven-tenths of a
second at the finish.
MotoGP
Sprint Race
Bastianini secured his first
Sprint race podium on Saturday,
and what's more, it was a win.
His triumph came at the ex
-
pense of Martin, who took back
crucial championship points
after Bagnaia, the points leader
coming to the UK, crashed
out. Polesitter Aleix Espargaro
(Aprilia Racing) completed the
podium, having initially con
-
tended with the leaders before
Bagnaia's exit and outperform-
ing Marc Marquez (Gresini Rac-
ing MotoGP), who also crashed
out, allowing Bastianini to rise to
third in the championship.
The race began with Bagna-
ia's strong start, which pushed
Espargaro wide and allowed
Martin to take an early lead.
Meanwhile, Franco Morbidelli
(Prima Pramac Racing) clat-
tered into the back of Marco
Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro
VR46 Racing Team) and both
crashed out, with Morbidelli
receiving a penalty for Sun
-
day's race. Further back, Pedro
Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3)
and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM
Factory Racing) collided, caus-
ing minor damage to Binder's
bike and enabling Marquez to
momentarily push past.
As the race progressed, Mar-
tin maintained his lead with Bas-
tianini in close pursuit, followed
by Espargaro and Bagnaia. The
first twist came when Bagnaia
crashed on lap five, ending his
race and shaking up the champi
-
took me, I tried to stay with him, but I
almost tucked the front at turn seven;
this is when I thought that, after yes-
terday's crash, it was better to think
about making it to the finish line."
89 JORGE MARTIN
2/2 MOTOGP
"It's been a very solid weekend; we've
secured two-second places," Jorge
Martin said. "Today, I tried to win, but
it was difficult, to be honest. I got a
good start and tried to stay behind
Pecco [Bagnaia]. When I overtook
him, I started to push hard, trying to
create a gap with the riders behind.
But Enea arrived and I knew he would
catch me, and he took advantage of
a mistake I made to get on the lead.
From then on, I tried to hold on, but
Enea [Bastianini] was on another
level. I'm happy with the weekend
overall, with the work I did, the work
the team did, and I know we'll con-
tinue to make progress."
