race. A last-lap mistake ended his run for another moto win, but 5-2 scores still put him on the box for the second week in a row. "I got taken out on the first corner, and I was riding the walls; it was a hectic first moto," Shimoda said. "I had a good start, and Chance and I were up front. The last couple laps, you're tired but you try to push through it. I tried, but it didn't work out. I'm very proud of my teammate to get his first win." Tom Vialle started out the day in the lead, but 3-4 finishes pushed him off the podium to fourth overall. "We were pretty much side by side the whole moto and I knew he was going to do a hard charge there at the end. The biggest thing is just me versus me; the plan doesn't change. I think [Hymas] passed me in the second corner, and he put in some good laps to get a gap on us. But yeah, that first moto was gnarly; we were charg - ing the whole race." As he has done in recent races, Shimoda again came to life in the second moto. He ran up front early and took over the lead just after the halfway point. Masterpool then battled to the wire with points leader Deegan in the clos- ing laps, narrowly taking the win by just 0.360 of a second. In race two, the number 29 started up front again but slowly faded off the podium, admitting fatigue. He salvaged a fifth in the race, good enough to take second on the day. "He [Deegan] was behind me the whole moto; we were battling at the beginning," Masterpool said.
