WIND IN THE P62 Stacey, Irwin Take Snetterton BSB Wins G lenn Irwin has shot to the lead of the 2024 British Superbike Championship after taking two wins from three starts at round five of the series at Snetterton on July 6-7. Storm Stacey (Kawasaki) kicked off proceedings in the rain by taking his first career BSB win, two-tenths of a second ahead of Lewis Rollo (Aprilia) and Kyle Ryde (Yamaha), six seconds in arrears. Jason O'Halloran (Kawasaki) and Irwin completed the top five. Irwin righted matters for race two, heading home former teammate and current champion Tommy Bridewell (Honda) by 1.4 seconds, with Christian Iddon third on the Oxford Ducati, 2.1 seconds behind Irwin. It was a similar story for race three, although a little closer, Irwin again getting the better of Bridewell but only by a tenth of a second and Iddon, again third, seven-tenths of a second back. The wins put Irwin atop the title tree on 177 points, four up on Bridewell, as the season looks to be setting up to be a repeat of the epic title battle the two staged last year. Iddon is third on 156. "I was pleased with both wins, and it's good to be back in the championship lead," Irwin said. I've probably lost a little bit this last month, but we continue to work hard. Massive thanks to the team for the bike they gave me. "We experimented a little bit in the first race and found some areas that worked well and others where we could still improve, but I rode with clarity and resilience, and it was a well-executed victory. "The weather conditions changed for the second race, which meant I struggled with grip, especially in the second half of the race, and I lost the front several times. I had to dig deep and did a really good last lap, so fair play to Tommy and Christian, as they were there all the way. I love racing against Tommy, as he's like me and never gives up."
