ROUND 8 / JUNE 28-30, 2024 TT CIRCUIT ASSEN / THE NETHERLANDS MOTOGP I FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP P98 four-tenths of a second back from the leader. Veijer's rear tire was completely spent, and Ortola continued to home in as they rounded the Ramshoek turn. As Veijer went defensive into the GT Chicane, Ortola's bril - liant round-the-outside pass was good enough for the lead at the finish, and he took his first victory of the year by twelve- thousands of a second. Munoz and Jose Antonio Rueda (Ajo KTM) passed Alonso for third and fourth, respectively, at the final chicane, with impressive rookie Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Honda) in sixth. Alonso still enjoys a healthy championship lead. Veijer now sits second, 39 points back, with Holgado (111) and Ortola (105) still in the mix. CN KTM), Adrian Fernandez (Leop- ard Honda) and Ivan Ortola (MSI KTM). Yet Ortola was the danger man having led laps one to 10. And the Spaniard had made his way through to second on lap 18, where he had a deficit of eight-tenths of a second to make up to reach the leader. At that point, the first Dutch triumph on home soil since 1989 seemed a formality. Yet Ortola caused the rowdy grand - stands to quieten at the start of the last lap, as he was now just who rounded out the top six. Garcia's (138 points) lead over Ogura (124) now stands at 14 points, with Roberts (115) dropping to third. Moto3 The early going of the day all pointed toward a famous home triumph. Home hero Collin Veijer (IntactGP Husqvarna) had dominat - ed practice and went into the race as favorite, despite missing out on pole posi - tion. After finding his rhythm, the 19-year-old took control of a 13-rider fight for victory on lap 11 and set about building a lead. By lap 16, he had built up a four-tenths of a second advan - tage over David Alonso (Aspar CFMoto), David Munoz (BOE MOTOGP SPRINT 1. Francesco Bagnaia (Duc) 19:58.090 2. Jorge Martin (Duc) +2.355 3.
