Race two was a case of all
systems normal with blue skies
making for a stroll in the sun for
the number-two Ducati of Josh
Herrin.
Herrin is clearly growing in
confidence and commanded the
race by slicing past early leader
Petersen, putting his head down
and slamming home consis
-
tently faster lap times than the
chasing pack in much the same
fashion he did in race two at
Road America. He would cross
the line five seconds ahead of
Fong for his 12th career Mo-
toAmerica/AMA Superbike win.
"Everything just clicked today,
just like Road America," Herrin
said. "Like I said all year, we
knew Barber was difficult, but
every other race, we've been
Paasch, a possible podium
finisher given his tire choice, ran
off at turn one on the opening lap
and rejoined dead last. However,
the two-time Daytona 200 Cham
-
pion was flying and eventually
worked his way back up to ninth
at the flag, one place behind the
first slick-shod rider, Baz.
The race only ran eight of the
scheduled 10 laps after Agustin
Sierra (EasyHealthPlans.com/
TopPro Racing Team BMW)
crashed and brought out the red
flag, putting an end to the ultra-
close-quarters racing of the two
Yamahas, with Petersen getting
the win, as his gap over Gagne
at the finish line of the previous
lap was 0.032 of a second.
Fores hung on for third and
his first podium of the year, but
the star was arguably Danilo
Lewis, who took a fourth, his
best MotoAmerica race result
so far, 12 seconds behind
Petersen and 30 seconds up
on fifth-place Richard Kerr, who
also took a career-best finish.
