"Homeboy Henry"—as in Doug Henry—was featured on the cover
30 years ago for winning the Southwick 125cc National Motocross
for Team Honda. Mike LaRocco and Mike Kiedrowski went 1-2 in the
250cc class. Randy Hawkins was also pictured to accompany our
interview with the oŠ-road star… Steve Morehead rose to the top at
the Lima Half Mile… Steve Hislop and Joey Dunlop were the stars at
the Isle of Man; the race was marred by the deaths of Irishman Mike
Farmer and Scot Rob Mitchell.
Jake Zemke made front-page news for winning his very first
AMA Superbike at Brainerd 20 years ago... Valentino Rossi won
for the third straight time at the Dutch GP... Steve Hengeveld
and Johnny Campbell combined eŠorts to win the Baja 500...
Mickael Pichon spoiled Stefan Everts homecoming with a win at
the Belgian GP... Nathan Kanney won the ISDE Qualifier round in
Ohio... Joe Kopp won the Lima Half-Mile but the legality of his
race fuel was questioned, putting his victory on hold until a later
date.
