while Robinson (131) and Bauman (120) remain firmly in the hunt. AFT SINGLES Rick Ware Racing's Kody Kopp has frequently been compared to Daniels, and their career trajec- tories have been eerily similar to date, from Nicky Hayden Horizon Award-winning amateur careers to Progressive AFT rookie star- dom to back-to-back champion- ship runs in years two and three. That path diverged when Kopp elected to return to the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles class for a fourth season, whereas Daniels had jumped up to the premier class at that point. Delaying the inevitable set the KTM-mounted star up for a his- toric run in the feeder series, and more and more the record books' sections concerning the Singles category are reading like a Kody Kopp hagiography. into his maiden premier-class podium by two-thousandths of a second at the checkered flag. Mees, meanwhile, pulled the same move on Robinson. That allowed him to salvage fifth- place points from what had been a brutal day, avoiding any cata- strophic damage to his quest for an unprecedented 10th Grand National Championship. Memphis Shades/Roof Sys- tems' Brandon Price finished seventh, followed by Fairway Ford's Jarod Vanderkooi, Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing's (Indian- mounted) Trevor Brunner, and Rackley Racing's Davis Fisher to round out the top 10. Daniels now leads the title fight with 149 points to Mees' 133, SIMILAR RESULT, DIFFERENT RIDE Rookie Trevor Brunner picked up his fourth top 10 of the season. While the ninth-place result wasn't out of the ordinary from what we've seen from the Mission Foods/Zanotti Racing pilot to date, it came aboard an Indian FTR750 rather than the team's KTM 790 Duke. Brunner explained, "It was a mutual team decision. The KTM was some- thing we just couldn't really get a hold of. The Indians were just sitting there, and thankfully S&S were willing to give those a shot again. We just kind of hopped on them, thinking it might be an eas- ier base to get me comfortable on a twin. We thought it would be a way to get rolling and get some confidence up and then try the KTMs again at a later date. All in all, we made some decent prog- ress. The results weren't there, but I felt like late in that main event, we made some strides and started battling with [Davis] Fisher and Jarod [Vanderkooi] and were able to nip Fisher there right at the checkered flag. I think we've got something to work with going to Bridgeport to see if we can't get more comfortable on these twins." Briefly... ROUND 7 / JUNE 15, 2024 ORANGE COUNTY FAIR SPEEDWAY / MIDDLETOWN, NEW YORK P98 FLAT TRACK I PROGRESSIVE AMA AMERICAN FLAT TRACK Daniels (center), Bauman (left) and Gauthier celebrate on the OC SuperTwins podium.
