Defending champ Fred Merkel patiently
waits for the racing to begin at the World
Superbike round at Brainerd International
Raceway in 1989. More than 20,000 fans
cheered for an American win but instead
witnessed Frenchman Raymond Roche
(Ducati) capture his first World Superbike
victory. Merkel, on the Honda RC30,
went 4-3 over the weekend.
