ROUND 4 / JUNE 15, 2024 HIGH POINT RACEWAY / MT. MORRIS, PENNSYLVANIA MOTOCROSS I AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP / MONSTER ENERGY SMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP P74 chased Honda's Chase Hymas for the lead for the first six laps before taking the lead. The Kawasaki rider then set sail and could taste his first career moto win before Deegan got around him two laps from the finish. Earlier in the race, Deegan got bumped back on the first lap and was 14th, heading into lap two. From there, he steadily worked his way up through the pack before taking the impres- sive win, gaining big points on championship rival Tom Vialle, who crashed and finished eighth after starting sixth. Honda's Jo Shimoda was third, followed by Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawa- saki Team, led by team founder Mitch Payton, who acquired Masterpool just a day before the start of the outdoor champi- onship four weeks ago to help bolster his injury-depleted team. Masterpool had planned to compete in the 450MX class as a privateer. As you can imagine, it was a special and emotional day for both Payton and Mas- terpool, who lost his brother/ racer, Jesse, in a racing accident 14 years ago and has had many ups and downs with his racing career over the past few years. In the first moto, Masterpool but I had a little Lady Luck. "It's good to get the overall and head into the [one weekend] break [in the series]," Jett added. "It's pretty gnarly out there," Hunter said. "In the second moto, I just didn't have the explosive fire like I had in moto one. I think that was pretty clear. It was good to minimize the damage [in points] and not do anything silly." Anderson was fourth in the moto for sixth place overall, and Plessinger was fifth for fourth overall. Cooper was fifth overall with a 4-6. "The day went well," Cooper said. "I felt good in the first moto, then I laid it down when I was in third, and I ended up fourth in that one. In the second moto, I got shuffled around in the first turn, so I was pretty far back, but I actually felt better in that moto. I was working my way through the pack, and sixth was all I could do in that one." Hunter will again wear the red plate at the next race in two weeks at Southwick. He's six points ahead of Sexton. Jett is now just two points behind the KTM rider, Sexton, in third. Cooper, who went 4-6 on the day, is fourth in points, 20 behind Jett. Plessinger is fifth in the championship, nine points behind Cooper. 250MX The 250MX had plenty of great, nail-biting racing action, and Ty Masterpool was the big winner when it was all over. It was the 22-year-old's first career victory and the 300th for his Monster Ty Masterpool took a career-first and emotional win in the 250MX class. Even his rivals were happy for him.
