Stallings Tops High Point WMX F ollowing a three-week break in the series, the 2024 Women's Pro Motocross Championship resumed on Friday, June 14, during the High Point weekend of the AMA Pro Motocross Champion - ship in Mount Morris, Pennsylvania. Kawasaki rider Kyleigh Stallings grabbed the holeshot ahead of fel - low Kawasaki rider Sophie Phelps to start the first moto of the High Point WMX race. She was excited and surprised at the same time. "This was my first time at High Point, so I just didn't really know what to expect," said Stallings. "I knew that I needed the holeshot, and if I could pull away, it would be a good moto, so that's really what I tried to do; I just tried to find some good lines and be cre - ative and just stay consistent." Behind Stallings, Honda-mount- ed Jordan Jarvis passed Phelps on lap one to move into second, which she would hold to the finish. Behind Jarvis, Phelps and Jamie Astudillo (KTM) were locked in a battle for the final podium spot, with Phelps coming out on top. The second moto began much like the first, with Stallings get - ting the holeshot and Phelps in second. Jordan soon passed Phelps and ran second for the rest of the moto. The order at the finish was Stallings, Jordan, Phelps, Brianna Scheltema and Shelby Rolen (KTM). Astudillo, who was fourth in the first moto, had a hard crash in moto two. She was slow to her feet but managed to get back on the bike and finish out the moto in 11th. "Astudillo passed me but then she crashed, and all of a sud - den, I was kind of a lone wolf in third place for the rest of the race," said Phelps. Jarvis went 2-2 for second overall, while Phelps went 3-3 for third overall. Brianna Schel - tema (KTM) was 7-4 for fourth overall and Shelby Rolen went 6-5 for fifth. "This is my first year in the se - ries, so my first moto was not the best," said Scheltema. "I got off to a decent start, but I made contact with Stallings and that slowed me up a bit. I wasn't hitting the step-up out of the woods, which put a lot of pressure on my arms, casing that every lap, so I pumped up pretty fast. Then I made a mis - take, hit a kicker on the finish-line jump, and went off the finish-line jump. So, that caused me to tense up even more. In the second moto, I got a better start, and I felt a lot better, and I was hitting the step-up and the triple, so I made up a lot of time." Shelby Rolen (KTM) has been a long-time player in the WMX, and at High Point, she went 6-5 for fifth overall. "Moto one, I didn't get off to the start that I really wanted; I kind of had to work my way up from like ninth or so, and I ended up in fifth, and then one of the other girls who went down ended up getting me back so, unfor - tunately, I ended up sixth that moto," said Rolen. "The second moto I went down in the down - hill roller section with one of the other girls, so I ended up basical- ly last and had to work my way up; ended up working my way up to fifth that moto, so wow." Round five, the next WMX round, will again occur the day before a Pro Motocross round, on August 23 at the Ironman National, the season finale of the Pro Motocross season. Shan Moore OVERALL 1.
