The cover of Cycle News 50 years ago focused on local racing from around the country, but our feature race story was Corky Keener's win at the Louisville Half Mile... We tested the Yamaha 175 MX... Brad Lackey came close to winning his first overall victory in an international motocross race when he went 1-2-2 at a French International. Arne Kring edged him out with a 3-1-1 score... Torleif Hansen won the 250 MXGP in England, while Jim Pomeroy DNF'd both motos. YEARS AGO JUNE , P120 LOOKING BACK I The Yamaha RZ350, which was pictured on our cover, was the hot bike 40 years ago, and even hotter were the aftermarket exhaust pipes for it. We took the two-stoke RZ to the strip and found out which pipe made it go faster... We covered the Road America GNC/ Camel Pro Series Road Race that was won by Mike Baldwin... We toured the Spandau factory in West Berlin where the BMW K100 was built... Dan Smith and Dan Ashcraft won the Baja-to-Barstow desert race. YEARS AGO JUNE , (Above) Stefan Everts (72) works his way through the pack at the Grand Prix of France 20 years ago at which he picked up his 76th career GP win.
