King of the Day
Forty years ago, Alan King (10) won the
250cc class at the Hangtown Motocross
National. Riding for Honda-outfitted Team
Tamm, King became the first privateer
ever to lead an AMA National MX Series
after two rounds. Here, King chases first-
moto winner Rick Johnson. King went 2-3
on the day. King had one other National
win in the 500cc class while riding for the
factory Suzuki team in 1982.
