Before long, Gagne was in front and took Petersen along for the ride, the two Yamaha's carving a path through the rain for the others to follow. Beau - bier also had an early turn at the front but ran off at Canada Corner, charged back through the field and ultimately had a big off in turn one. He was taken to hospital for X-rays on his heel. Kelly would also bite the dust/ mud later in the race after his BMW aquaplaned at the end of the backstraight. Warhorse HSBK Racing Ducati's Loris Baz was a strong contender throughout the race, closely matching the two Yama - has. His only mistake came with two laps to go when he attempt- ed an ambitious pass on Peters- en at turn five. The maneuver backfired as he braked too late, costing him contact with the leaders. Nonetheless, Baz se- cured an impressive third-place finish, leaving the Frenchman in high spirits. With three corners to go, Pe- tersen made a lunge up the in- side of his teammate, but Gagne refused to give up the place, the two Yamahas bashing into each other on the run to the line. Up the hill, side-by-side, it would be Petersen who would take the spoils by four-thousandths of a second from Gagne. Baz was four seconds back ahead of Beaubier's teammate JD Beach, and Vision Wheel M4 Ecstar Suzuki's Brandon Paasch, who was having his best ride of the season to date, in fifth. Sunday's race two was a much more traditional affair, but it was conducted without Beau - bier—whose crash on Saturday rendered him unfit to take to the grid with a broken heel—and left him unable to claw back the points he lost yesterday. Due to the nature of his injury, it ap- pears that he'll also be out of the Brainerd round in two weeks' time, which could prove terminal to his chances of taking a sixth MotoAmerica Superbike title. VOLUME ISSUE JUNE , P89 1 MIKAYLA MOORE DNS-1 ROYAL ENFIELD BTR "I went over to the Arai tent, and I told them I needed my helmet and make sure it's good, since it was the same helmet that I crashed in," Moore said, who was able to swap helmets prior to the race after realizing she couldn't see out of her faceshield. "He said it was all checked out, but at the last minute I went to go put it on and I put the visor down and I could not see no one in front of me. It was super blurry. I had Kendall with K Tech come over and I was like, 'I need that other helmet ASAP, because I'm blind right now. I can't see nobody.'" MYOWNRACE (Left) The drag to the line in race one saw Cameron Petersen (45) grab his second win of the season, but only just. (Bottom) Cameron Beaubier (6) led early, but a big crash saw him suffer a heel injury and he'll be out for at least one more round.
