We covered the Greenhorn Enduro 50 years ago, which was staged in the John Muir High School parking lot in Pasadena, California, before riders headed into the nearby hills. Results at that time took weeks to tally. We guessed that Dave Ekins' team won... We also covered the Denver National Half-Mile, where Mert Lawwill took the win ahead of Gary Scott and Mike Kidd... Roger DeCoster won the 500cc MX Grand Prix in Belgium ahead of Willy Bauer. Carl Cranke won the Virginia City Grand Prix... We tested the Harley-Davidson SX175 dual purpose motorcycle. YEARS AGO JUNE , P136 LOOKING BACK I Kevin Hines was pictured on the cover of Cycle News 40 years ago for winning the Fools Gold Enduro National in California. Hines edged out fellow Husqvarna rider Mike Melton by less than a second. Je€ Ward (125cc), Rick Johnson (250cc) and David Bailey (500cc) were the big winners at the High Point Motocross National... Eddie Lawson outdueled Freddie Spencer to win the 500cc Grand Prix in Austria... Tony Pasqualotto won the Virginia City Grand Prix... Kerry Peterson won the Windowmaker Hillclimb. YEARS AGO JUNE , (Left) Greg Hancock qualified for the Overseas Final by winning the American Speedway Final at Ventura 30 years ago. Eddie Lawson rode to victory at the Austrian Grand Prix 40 years ago.
