One Champion Ayrton Senna,
who passed away 40 years ago.
"I had a pretty cool gearset col
-
lab, so you always want to do
extra good in that. Honestly, I'm
not too fond of this place, but
it's been pretty good to us."
Sexton completed the podium
with third overall. This was Sex
-
ton's first outdoor race aboard
the factory Red Bull KTM. A
crash in moto one proved detri
-
mental to his overall score as he
clawed his way back to fourth
after hitting the dirt in the open
-
ing laps. Race two looked like
the Sexton of old, as he started
third behind the Lawrences and
continued to march forward. He
passed Hunter and suspense-
fully stalked Jett, chipping away
at the lead as the clock wound
down. An off-track mistake with
two minutes left proved to be
the nail in the coffin for Sexton,
despite remounting a last-lap
charge.
"I was probably fifth or sixth,
and I went to the outside com
-
ing down the hill," Sexton said
about his first-moto crash. "I
think Dylan [Ferrandis] made a
mistake and came to a stop, and
I just tagged his rear tire and
went down, and then I fell again.
The second moto, Hunter came
out like a cannon, so I just fol
-
lowed him around the first turn.

MASTERPOOL FILL-IN
Ty Masterpool scored a fill-in ride
with Pro Circuit Kawasaki just
one day before the Fox National.
With three of the team's four rid-
ers (Cameron McAdoo, Austin
Forkner, Max Vohland and Seth
Hammaker, who was injured ear-
lier in the week) out with injury, the
Kawasaki-supported 250MX team
enlisted the services of Master-
pool, who rode the bike for the first
time on Friday. Masterpool showed
speed but a hard crash in moto
one took some of the wind out of
his sails. He ended up going 24-10
for 15th overall.
HAMPSHIRE OUT
RJ Hampshire did not race round
one of the 2024 Pro Motocross
Championship after he crashed on
Thursday's press day that resulted
in a broken wrist. "Not the post I
want to make," Hampshire said
via social media. "Riding press
[day] yesterday, I hit a rock in a
high-speed section that was about
the size of a basketball. It hap-
pened so fast, and I hit the ground
immediately. I did some damage
to my wrist that will put me out
for a bit. The treatment we got at
Loma Linda Hospital was unbeliev-
able. The surgery went well, and I
already started on the recovery."
MEDIA DAY MAYHEM
RJ Hampshire wasn't the only rider
who was sidelined for Saturday's
race after getting injured on Thurs-
day at Pala. Garrett Marchbanks
re-injured his thumb in a multi-
rider crash that nearly ended the
weekend early for Christian Craig
and Shane McElrath. Both Craig
and McElrath were shaken up but
raced on Saturday.
Briefly...
(Left) Chase Sexton (4) had to
play catch-up in moto one. Malcolm
Stewart (27) made his first outdoor
start in 10 years and finished
inside the top 10 overall. (Bottom)
Former 450MX Champion Dylan
Ferrandis (14) rode well in his
first ride outdoors on the Phoenix
Honda. Ferrandis and Justin Barcia
(51) finished 4th and 5th overall,
respectively.
