Tomac, Webb Out for
Pro Motocross Start
A
fter we reported last week that Eli Tomac
had extended his agreement with the Mon-
ster Energy Star Racing Yamaha team to com-
pete in the outdoor AMA Pro Motocross Champi-
onship and the Monster Energy SuperMotocross
World Championship finals, Tomac announced
that he will miss the early rounds of the Pro Mo
-
tocross Championship due to an injured thumb.
Tomac sustained the injury during practice at
the Denver Supercross round, which resulted in a
"Bennett fracture and torn ligaments." Surgery is
required, and the estimated recovery timeline is
six to eight weeks.
"This is not the news I wanted to break to
everyone," Tomac said. "But at the Denver
Supercross in free practice, I crashed on my
thumb, and it resulted in a Bennett fracture and
some torn ligaments that will require surgery to
stabilize my thumb. This is a tough one to swal
-
low, knowing that I'm going to miss the opening
rounds of motocross, but I'm optimistic I will
be able to race the later portion of the outdoor
season and the SMX rounds."
Tomac's Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha
teammate, Cooper Webb, has also been nursing
a thumb injury, which will require surgery. It ap
-
pears he will also miss several rounds outdoors.

Eli Tomac will have to sit out the first few rounds
of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship after
undergoing surgery on his thumb.
"Going to get surgery on it to repair
the ligament damage that I have,"
Webb said via social media on Mon-
day, May 13. "I'm looking forward to
starting that process. The doctor said
I could be out in about eight weeks
and can be back on the bike in about
eight weeks and get back to work after
that… We'll be back, going to try and
race as many outdoor Nationals as
we can and come to SMX to get some
redemption."
