homas Chareyre, of France,
won the opening round of the
FIM Supermoto World Cham-
pionship, the GP of Comunitat
Valenciana, in Albaida, Spain,
April 20-21.
Chareyre, aboard a Honda
CRF450R, battled the number-
one plate holder, Mark Reiner
Schmidt, of Germany, to take
the overall victory. Chareyre won
every time he was on the bike,
while the TM-mounted Schmidt
also had his hands full with KTM
rider Julen Avila Cortes of Spain,
who ended up third overall.
Honda riders Elia Sammartin,
of Italy, and Ferran Cardus, of
Spain, rounded out the top five
overall.
In the SuperMoto Legends
class, Czech rider Petr Vorlicek
(Honda) took the win over Great
Britain's Jay Smith (KTM) and
Scott Murray (Honda).
Round two, the GP of Sardegna,
takes place on May 25-26.
