ROUND 12 / MARCH 30, 2024
THE DOME AT AMERICA'S CENTER / ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI
SUPERCROSS I MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS / SUPERMOTOCROSS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
P62
could. His 2-3-21 netted eighth
overall and 14 points toward the
championship, versus Tomac's
25 and Webb's 22.
Obviously, it was a disap-
pointing and costly night for
Lawrence, especially with the
penalty and the get-together
with Barcia, which appeared to
be a racing incident since no
disciplinary actions have been
taken by the AMA yet. From
atop their bikes, Barcia and
Lawrence discussed the situ
-
ation moments aftter the race,
and it did not appear to be a
very heated discussion. After all
was said and done, both rode
off to the pits, seemingly having
patched things up.
"Overall, it was a rough day,"
Sexton said. "I'm ready for a
weekend off."
Justin Barcia's 6-4-10 placed
him sixth overall, just ahead
of Malcolm Stewart's seventh-
place from 7-9-8 results. Barcia
was involved in one of the big
-
gest controversies of the night
when he T-boned Jett Lawrence.
In a turn during the first lap of
the final race, Lawrence had cut
down on the GasGas rider, who
was also trying to defend his
position from the rider behind
him. Lawrence was sent to the
ground, wincing in pain.
Lawrence slowly managed to
remount and finish out the race
to salvage as many points as he
got a pretty bad start, ended up
sixth before I was docked, and
then in the last one, I worked my
way forward to sixth."
Chase Sexton rounded out
the top five with 10-5-3. His
night got off to a rough begin
-
ning when he got caught up in a
multi-rider crash that happened
on the first lap when Mitch
Oldenburg came up short over
a jump and went down, tak-
ing out several riders with him,
including Adam Cianciarulo and
Sexton. Ken Roczen and Jett
Lawrence were also held up in
the melee. Sexton was one of
the last riders to get back going
and rode well afterward to get
10th in the moto.
Jett Lawrence had
a frustrating night
after getting docked
a couple of positions,
getting T-boned by
Justin Barcia, and
seeing his points lead
shrink to eight.
