Webb bounced back with a
second-place result in Birming-
ham. After a run-in with Jett in
the heat race,
it was clear that
Webb meant business. He near-
ly holeshotted the main event
but
came through second, just
behind the number-18 machine.
With Lawrence sprinting up front
on the opening lap, a frightening
moment happened when Webb
grazed the 30-second board girl
who was still making her way
off the track.
"I've never seen that before,"
Webb said. "She was trying to
walk off, and Jett [Lawrence]
went right when she was walk
-
ing right, so I decided to go left.
But
she decided to change di-
rections, and I thought, 'Oh crap,
I'm going to
hit her.' Pretty scary;
I just hope she's alright."

NICHOLS RETURNS
Colt Nichols was in the Factory
Beta paddock for the first time this
season. Nichols, who suffered a
shoulder injury prior to the series
opener, crossed the line 13th in
his return, one spot ahead of his
Beta teammate Benny Bloss. "I
was all smiles this weekend in
'Bama; it felt awesome to be back
and behind the gate again. The
result isn't what we wanted, but it's
a start, and I know where I need to
be better."
DEEGAN DOCKED
Haiden Deegan was one of the
riders in the 250SX East division
who received a penalty after the
main event. "He had a decent start
in the main event, and then also
got caught up in the opening-lap
incident and went off track," said
the Star Racing Yamaha team.
"The Californian fought his way
back to seventh but ultimately
was credited with ninth after being
docked two positions for gain-
ing an advantage while off track
on that first lap." Deegan added,
"Birmingham didn't go as planned.
I will always ride with heart. I'm
sorry the emotions got the best of
me tonight."
